The HydroTools Pool Vacuum head is a great choice for smaller pools and budget-conscious owners. It's not the most expensive option, but it's certainly not the worst either. The vacuum head fits 1-1/4 and 1-1/2inch vacuum hoses without an adaptor.

The only downside is that it's not heavy enough to stay at the bottom of the pool, so you'll need to put in some extra effort to keep it down and push it along the surfaces since it lacks wheels. Additionally, the suction power is not the strongest, so you may need to make a few passes to pick up all the debris.

Pros:

  • Good price
  • Brush bristles can further loosen & capture dirt and debris
  • Compatible with 1-1/4 and 1-1/2inch hose

Cons:

  • Not heavy enough to the bottom

5 Guys Outlet: Great Vac, but doesn't fit all aluminum pool poles

Honestly great vac, it DID NOT fit my "bestway" vacuum pole (my fault for not looking) so I simply grabbed about 8" of a 1" PVC pipe and drilled matching holes. 100% easier than the vac that came with my 15' above-ground bestway pool and is 75% faster with the wheels and no bristles/brushes. very satisfied.
Recap: drilled holes to match the stock vacuum's "snap" clips, then measured to drill holes to match the bestway pole holes and put a bolt through it. Simple and didnt have to buy a new pole. - Cheers

MikeMilw: It works, but not the best for a small pool.

This attaches fine and works to vacuum the pool. We found that it did not swivel enough at the pole connection to maintain itself flat on the bottom of our small above ground pool. May work better for larger and/or in-ground pools. —— ⭐⭐⭐⭐

C.H: Not easy to use

This product is smaller than I thought. Also very difficult to push with hose attached. —— ⭐⭐⭐

Razor Cola: works well as advertised

This is a manual brush vacuum connected to your vacuum system in the pool. Suction power is dependent on the suction of your vacuum system, this does nothing additional, nor did I expect anything as there are no moving parts. It is a brush, with a connection for the vacuum to collect the dust kicked up while you brush your pool. Works terrifically, should last probably forever (so to speak) as there are no mechanical parts to break down. —— ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Denise Pollard:

It is very easy to use and stays on the bottom without having to force it to stay there. It cleans very well.—— ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Mary C Hughes:  Attach point can break
Vacuum worked great but after about 10-12 uses the attach point on the vacuum for the pole broke. Just need to be very careful in maneuvering the vacuum to avoid putting too much stress on the attach point. —— ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Love this pool cleaning attachment so much better than the brush type attachment. ——  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Hanginthere: Great Company
I received the pool vacuum on May 16. A couple of the wheels did not quite spin like I wanted them to. I emailed Fibropool to let them know and I received 8 new wheels the next day. Then for some reason in July the plastic on the vacuum cracked and broke making it impossible to vacuum. I emailed them to let them know and received a brand new vacuum the next day. This company really stands by it product. I will have no problem using them in the future. Thanks again Fibropool ——  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

CRG: No issues
I've used this about 6 times now with no issues. It's heavy enough and the wheels roll fine. No discoloration or quality issues after a month or so. —— ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

It was great for cleaning the pool loved it ——  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Kathy F: Excellent vac head
Does a great job of sucking down to the bottom and walls, and the brushes do a good job scrubbing the surface. I like it a lot. —— ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Sean:  Not the best
I guess it’s worth the low price tag but once I got it hooked up and at the end of my pole things went downhill. The hook up for the hose is one size fits all with no way to secure the hose so it kept falling off. Then when the hose stayed on the suction power had this thing glued to the pool floor and it was impossible to move it back and forth like a vacuum would need to be. Again it’s better than nothing, I guess. But there are things that are much better than it. —— ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Manual Pool Vacuum Head

When choosing the best manual pool vacuum head for your needs, consider the following essential features:

  1. Durability and Materials

Look for vacuum heads made from durable materials that can withstand regular use and exposure to pool chemicals.

-Common materials: Nylon, Polypropylene, Metal

  1. Weighted Design for Maximum Suction

A weighted pool vacuum head ensures it stays firmly on the pool floor, maintaining consistent suction power for efficient cleaning. And it doesn't make you feel tired.

General weight:2pounds-4pounds

  1. Cleaning Coverage and Shape

Consider the shape and size of the vacuum head. Some designs are better suited for specific pool shapes or corners, ensuring no debris is left behind.

    • Rectangular Vacuum Heads

Rectangular vacuum heads are versatile and suitable for general pool cleaning. They offer a wide cleaning path, making them ideal for covering larger areas efficiently. The squared-off corners of these vacuum heads allow them to reach into tight spaces, ensuring thorough cleaning even in hard-to-reach areas.

    • Triangular Vacuum Heads

Triangular vacuum heads are specifically designed for cleaning corners and hard-to-reach areas of the pool. The angled shape allows the vacuum head to reach into tight spots, ensuring no debris is left behind. These vacuum heads are particularly useful for cleaning pool steps, crevices, and other irregularly shaped areas.

    • Butterfly Vacuum Heads

Butterfly-shaped vacuum heads are designed with a split body that opens and closes like wings. These heads are excellent for cleaning curved pool surfaces, such as those found in circular pools. The butterfly shape allows the vacuum head to closely follow the contours of the pool, ensuring thorough cleaning without missing any spots.

    • Weighted Vacuum Heads

Weighted vacuum heads are designed with added weights to keep them submerged during cleaning. The additional weight ensures consistent contact with the pool floor, maximizing suction power and debris removal. These vacuum heads are particularly useful for pools with irregular surfaces or for removing stubborn dirt and debris that may be harder to pick up.

    • See-Through Vacuum Heads

See-through vacuum heads feature a transparent or translucent body, allowing for better visibility during the cleaning process. The clear design enables you to monitor the debris collection, ensuring you don't miss any spots. These vacuum heads are especially useful for pools with lighter-colored floors or for detecting and removing finer particles from the pool.

Make sure the vacuum head is compatible with your existing pool pole and hose, allowing for easy attachment and maneuverability.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Pool Vacuum Heads

Q: How Do Manual Pool Vacuum Heads Work?

Manual pool vacuum heads are connected to a pool pole and hose. The pool's pump creates suction, picking up debris as you move the vacuum head across the pool. The debris-filled water goes through the filtration system, returning clean water to the pool. Regular use keeps your pool clean and hygienic.

Q: How often should I vacuum my pool?

It depends on its size, the surrounding environment, and the debris it collects. Generally, vacuuming once a week is recommended to keep it clean. However, if there's a lot of debris or heavy usage, consider doing it two to three times a week. Regular vacuuming maintains water clarity and a healthy swimming environment.

Q: How long does a vacuum head last?

The lifespan of a vacuum head depends on its quality, how often it's used, pool conditions, and care. High-quality vacuum heads that are used carefully and cleaned after each use can last several years. To extend its life, avoid using it forcefully and store it in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. While it's hard to give an exact lifespan, a well-cared-for vacuum head could last from 3 to 5 years or more. Replacing worn-out parts can also help it last longer.

Q: What should I do if my pool vacuum head is not picking up debris?

Check for clogs in the vacuum head, hose, or filtration system. Also, ensure the pool pump is operating correctly, as it provides the suction power. If everything seems in order, it might be time to replace the vacuum head.
